Another cold front will move across the area this morning bringing north winds and eventually some cooler air back to eastern OK for the weekend. The exact magnitude of the cooler air has changed some in the recent data. A storm system will be nearing the area Sunday bringing a chance for some very light precipitation across part of eastern OK.
After the cold (cooler) air exits the area Sunday night into Monday, warmer air will arrive next week with unseasonably warm weather lasting for several days. Some data supports temperatures nearing 80 by next Friday. The next major upper level system should arrive sometime around Feb 18th through the 20th.
The pattern continues to be dominated by a large vortex located from the Hudson Bay Canada southward into the Midwest and Ohio River Valley. The broad counter-clockwise circulation is bringing more cold air back across the eastern part of the state today. The initial wind shift is moving across the state this morning but the colder air will be re-enforced later tonight with highs Saturday only in the mid-40s to upper 40s.
The Sunday system will not have significant low level moisture to encounter, but some showers or drizzle will be possible. The temperatures during the early morning hours and the late evening hours would support some light freezing rain across extreme eastern OK but this will not be significant for most spots. Only a very few valley locations of extreme NE OK and NW Arkansas would see any potential travel impacts. And even in these areas the window for light freezing precip will be very small. Additionally, the actual chances for precipitation will remain low.
As the system exits the state late Sunday night or early Monday morning, the pattern will begin to change and this will allow warmer air to arrive across the state. The exact numbers will eventually change from a day to day forecast, but the trend is supporting 60s and 70s for a number of days next week. There may be a window late next week for a few 80s nearing eastern OK by Friday afternoon.
Thanks for reading the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
