Police say a search of the Arkansas River west of downtown Tulsa early Thursday failed to turn up anyone in the river after they got a 911 call.

Officers say at around midnight a teenage caller claimed his friend had gone into the river at 49th West Avenue.

Police and firefighters began a search of the Arkansas River using fire rescue boats and the police helicopter but after several hours called off the search after finding nothing.

An officer told News On 6, it was not clear how the teen may have ended up in the river.  Right now, they don't know if the teen jumped or walked into the river.

Tulsa Police filed a missing person report and contacted the missing person's family.

No word yet on if authorities will resume the search..
