One person has been pronounced dead following a deputy-involved shooting near Okmulgee.

According a news release, around 2:00 Wednesday afternoon Okmulgee County Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a crash on Highway 75 near Cedar Road.

When deputies arrived they found a semi went off the road and into a pond near the Deep Fork Wildlife management area.

Okmulgee County Sheriff Eddy Rice said a deputy tried to make contact with the driver. He said when the man produced a gun and the deputy fired his weapon.

The driver was pronounced dead. It’s unknown at this time if the driver fired any shots.

Rice said there was no pursuit and it’s unknown why the driver went off the road.

Beyond that, few details have been released by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, who is investigating the scene.

The Okmulgee County Sheriff's Office said they can't release any information on a shooting that involved one of their deputies.

There were several witnesses nearby when the shooting happened, but they couldn't go into detail but said when the suspect drove off the road in the semi they tried to help, but the driver pointed a gun at them too.
