Red Flag Warning Issued For Several Eastern Oklahoma Counties

A red flag warning is in effect for several counties in eastern Oklahoma on Friday, as strong South winds are gusting and expected to continue cranking up throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service, the fire danger is high for areas west of Tulsa, and it has issued a red flag warning for the following counties until 6 p.m.: Adair, Atoka, Cherokee, Choctaw, Craig, Creek, Delaware, Haskell, Kay, Latimer, Mayes, McIntosh, Muskogee, Noble, Nowata, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Osage, Ottawa, Pawnee, Payne, Pittsburg, Pushmataha, Rogers, Tulsa, Wagoner, Washington.

"Winds will increase significantly across the area this afternoon with winds gusting to near 30 mph and relative humidity values falling to 25 percent or less. Any fires that start could quickly spread out of control," the NWS in Tulsa says.
