Green Country road crews have been out in force to treat streets as snow falls Saturday morning.
The City of Tulsa released the following statement at 1 p.m.:
"City of Tulsa street crews have been out since early this morning treating bridges and overpasses. There were a few areas in north and west Tulsa that required treatment on the roadways, but currently pavement conditions are staying above freezing and the streets are wet, but in good condition.
A new shift of snow and ice crews just came into work at noon and will continue to drive all routes to check for any hazardous issues. Crews will continue to monitor roadways into the evening hours and address any refreezing on roadways."
Tulsa road maintenance crews were out starting around 2 a.m.
"It's an ongoing process through the year, normally, because, on and off, we have issues. So, constantly during the week, we start trucks just to check to make sure we don't have problems," said Tulsa Street Maintenance Manager, Tim McCorkell.
Motorists are reminded to keep back from salt/snow trucks - allowing them plenty of room.
Snow was reported in northwest Oklahoma including the Panhandle. An update from ODOT came in at 1 p.m. Saturday:
"Snow removal efforts have wrapped up in the Panhandle and in western and northern parts of the state as well as the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metro areas. As the storm moves out of the state, pavement is beginning to dry."
Crews will stay alert and clear the roadways as conditions change and precipitation is expected to continue moving into the state. Drivers should use caution traveling through these areas and allow extra travel time.
Crews in northern and central Oklahoma and in the metros, continue to monitor the weather and are ready to respond should conditions warrant. Drivers are urged to check the weather before traveling and be prepared to alter or delay plans if necessary.
