No. 3 OU remains undefeated after beating No. 11 Iowa State 87-83 Saturday night.
Hield got the Sooners going early in the first quarter with a step-back three to end a 14-1 ISU run, but the Cyclones answered with five more points to take a 23-12 advantage.
Gameplay picked up mid first half when OU brought Iowa State’s 11-point lead down to eight.
Hield helped the Sooners cut their deficit to four (35-31) after hitting his 12th point.
Going into halftime, ISU led 41-37 and carried a 23-21 rebounding advantage. This marked Oklahoma’s second halftime deficit of the season.
Despite getting outshot 46%-37% overall and 40%-19% from three-point range, the Sooners were inching closer to a lead.
Hield led the Sooners in scoring with 14 points. Ryan Spangler had ten and Dinjiyl Walker contributed seven. Hield and Khadeem combined for eight rebounds while Jordan Woodard added four assists and two steals to the mix.
The barn burner really heated up with just under six minutes left of the final half when Lattin sank two from the charity stripe to tie the game 73-all.
Isaiah Cousins then hit two deep balls back to back to give the Sooners a 79-77 lead. Spangler snagged a steal, advancing the Sooners lead with a fast break layup.
OU and ISU then exchanged buckets back and forth before Hield secured a Sooner victory after sinking two free throws.
With the 87-83 win, OU advanced to 12-0 on the season, matching its second-best start in school history.
