Here at News On 6, we cover a lot of burglaries, but that doesn’t prevent us from being victims ourselves.
Recently, a thief targeted one of our News On 6 storm spotters and got away with all of his broadcast equipment; now police are working to get it back.
Police said the burglar is brazen because not many people own TV equipment like we have, which has worked in our favor.
Von Castor puts his life on the line to spot storms, but he couldn’t have spotted what happened to him in Broken Arrow, Saturday, when a burglar broke into his truck while parked at Los Cabos for lunch.
The thief got away with TV equipment worth $60,000; Von started scouring Craigslist in search of the missing items.
"These items are very specific, very unique. It's not very often you have $7,000 cameras," said Sergeant Scott Lillard with Broken Arrow Police.
Lo and behold, he found live shot equipment, cameras, a computer and more were listed and called the police.
An investigator started texting the seller to make a buy which led to the arrest of Christopher Norman, who said he simply bought the items from someone else and did not steal them.
Police said Norman only had some of the stolen equipment - cameras and lenses.
"There's a possibility five people could have had this before this guy ended up," Lillard said.
Channel 6 got another lucky break Wednesday when a man called after the arrest saying he found our Dejero - equipment that allows us to go live - on the side of the road.
Police said that's great, but fishy. They said that person found the Dejero an hour after the arrest and there's something weird about that.
Von is still missing a computer and some memory cards.
