Rogers County Highway Renamed To Honor Fallen Claremore Soldier

A stretch of highway in Rogers County has been renamed in honor of a 19-year-old Claremore soldier killed in Afghanistan.

One mile of Highway 88 between the Oologah Dam and the fallen soldier's church is now called the PFC Jon Ross Townsend Memorial Highway.

Private First Class Jon Townsend,died September 16, 2012, in Zabul province, Afghanistan of injuries suffered when his position was attacked with small arms fire. 

Four other soldiers were also killed. Private First Class Townsend was assigned to 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

He is remembered as a young patriot who cherished his wife, his family and his country.
