Texas Head Coach Charlie Strong, athletic director Mike Perrin and University President Greg Fenves have lured TU offensive line coaches Sterlin Gilbert and Matt Mattox down to Austin.
News On 6 has exclusive video from the meeting with both TU's co-offensive coordinators, Gilbert and Matt Mattox on Friday night. In the video, Gilbert is the man in the sport coat, Mattox is the tall guy in the pullover.
On Saturday, Coach Philip Montgomery promoted assistant offensive line coach Mike Bloesch to fill one of the positions. He will fill the other coaching position after the bowl game, according to a Tweet from University of Tulsa.
Details of the agreement weren't immediately available. The deal was struck in a Friday night meeting between Fenves, Texas coach Charlie Strong and Texas Athletic Director Mike Perrin in Tulsa.
Earlier Friday, two TU students caught Coach Strong for a picture inside one of the private lobbies at Tulsa International Airport.
A university president and athletic director flying to court an assistant coach is extremely rare - if not unprecedented.
Sterlin Gilbert just finished his first season as a co-coordinator at TU. He coaches the quarterbacks and receivers but doesn't call the plays. It's believed Gilbert initially turned the Texas offer down Friday afternoon, leading Coach Philip Montgomery to tell a Waco radio reporter it was "a win for Tulsa."
Multiple outlets in Austin reported the breakdown had a lot to do with money as Coach Strong's initial offer was perceived as a low-ball.
Gilbert and Mattox both coached at Houston under Art Briles, and were together at Bowling Green before coming to TU last winter.
