The stage is set for a shootout in the 3A state championship, and Lincoln Christian has been rolling, averaging 55 points per game with Micah Wilson at the controls of an explosive offense.
"Just like a veteran, he's been very poised, very consistent," said Lincoln Christian head coach Darren Melton.
Wilson feels his team needs to peak this week. “I think this is the week we have to peak out because it’s the state championship,” he explained. “I feel like constantly every week we've been getting better every day in practice, focusing on the details.”
"We do understand that Heritage Hall has an explosive offense, but [we] just want to do what we've been doing all season which is playing the run well and getting them in down and distance situations," Melton added.
Not only will it be the culmination of a perfect season for the Bulldogs, it will also be the culmination of a long time playing with each other. Most of these guys have played together since the 3rd grade.
"Feel like we're the class that everybody's been looking to here at Lincoln and been waiting for them to become seniors,” said Wilson. “We have a great bond and we are super excited to play on Saturday."
"[I] sent them a text, said ‘tomorrow's your last padded practice here at Lincoln Christian School and I already miss you,’” added Melton. “They’re good football players, but they're better guys and that's what I'm proud of."
The Bulldogs will be even prouder if they bring home the gold ball.
