Two Oklahoma sisters hope the power of social media can help them find their late mother's sweatshirt which was mistakenly donated to Goodwill.
Lynn Frazier passed away suddenly on July 2, 2014. Her daughter, Holly McCollom, says Lynn was a speech pathology teacher who loved to dress for the holiday, whatever the holiday may be. As a result, she had dozens of holiday sweatshirts.
Her husband didn't start to clean out her sweatshirts until the end of last month. As he boxed up the shirts in his Owasso home, he sent photos to his daughters, Holly in Edmond and Jennifer Hovis in Broken Arrow, asking them which ones they'd like to keep.
At first Jennifer told her dad she didn't want any of her mom's shirts. But hours later she changed her mind, telling her dad she wanted the white sweatshirt with an angel and the word "peace" on the front. Unfortunately, Richard Frazier had already taken boxes of shirts to a donation site on 116th Street North in Owasso.
Frazier immediately returned to the drop-off location but the clothing had already been picked up. The family contacted Goodwill which said it couldn't find the shirt. Goodwill says it was distributed to one of its Tulsa-area stores, but it has no way of knowing which one.
That's when a woman in Toronto got involved. Alison Williams is Jennifer Hovis' best friend. Without the sisters' knowledge, Williams contacted the Canadian Broadcasting Company, which posted a story about the family's search.
People have been sharing the CBC's story on social media and that's how News On 6 got involved.
If you find the shirt, you can contact News On 6 at newsdesk@newson6.net and we'll contact the family.
Holly says this particular shirt symbolizes her mother's festive spirit better than all the rest.
