A driver wrecked after falling asleep behind the wheel of a semi on the Will Rogers Turnpike early Sunday, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. It took firefighters over an hour to free her passenger from the truck's cab.
The wreck took place just after 2 a.m. about 9 miles east of Claremore in Rogers County.
Troopers say Illinois resident Kara L. Poole was driving westbound on the Will Rogers Turnpike when she apparently fell asleep. Her 2015 Freightliner went off the roadway, going through a ditch and a fence.
The load in the trailer shifted forward, and industrial engines crashed forward into the cab and onto the ground.
Tri-District Fire Department used the jaws of life to rescue Sabrina R. Hernandez, 31, who was riding with Poole. She was taken by Air Evac to a Tulsa hospital with back injuries, a collision report states.
Poole was treated and released from a Tulsa hospital with head and internal injuries. She's said to be in good condition.
The collision report states Poole was wearing a seat belt but Hernandez was not.
