The first snow of the season fell in Green Country and some lucky folks were awake to see it. Amber Price from Barnsdall took a picture of snow falling onto her deck this morning. She wasn’t the only one, reports of snow came from Ramona, Pawhuska and down to Cleveland.
If you missed out on seeing the flakes, another chance for snow could be here sooner rather than later.
A cold front opened the door to arctic air this weekend. Highs for this afternoon will most likely top out in the mid-40s. This will be the coldest afternoon that we’ve seen this fall, and we have to travel back to March 5th to see any similar afternoons. A north wind about 10 to 15 should put our wind chill values in the upper 30s. Winds will weaken as the day goes by and tonight, with light winds and mostly clear skies, temperatures will plummet even more.
Morning lows on the Sunday in the mid-20s with wind chill values in the upper teens. A freeze warning is in place from 6 p.m. tonight until 9 a.m. Sunday. This will be a hard freeze, or killing freeze, so any sensitive plants left outside might not be able to survive the night.
A warm up is expected to start on Sunday. We return to south winds and the arctic air mass will begin to moderate. Highs will soar passed normal (58°) by Monday and into the 60s for much of the week. On Tuesday, a passing upper level wave could bring a few sprinkles to folks northwest of Tulsa but most likely, it will just bring in some clouds. It gets windy on Tuesday as a stronger system strengthens to our southwest.
Scattered showers are possible on Wednesday, but the best rain and storm chances will be on Thanksgiving. The system looks to move through on Thanksgiving, but it’s leaving some question marks about what conditions will be like for Friday.
Another cold front on Friday (Black Friday) will open the door once again to arctic air. This time, depending on if any precipitation sticks around, we could see a few more snowflakes. It’s still too early to tell but be advised that the possibility for some wintry weather is there by next weekend.
