The Tulsa City Council hosted its first Veterans Recognition Ceremony Tuesday afternoon at American Legion Post One.

Councilors Jeannie Cue and Anna America came up with the idea.

This year they put the spotlight on Tulsa-area vets who served in World War II and the Korean War.

The council, along with Congressman Jim Bridenstine, recognized the veterans with a proclamation to honor their service.

Tulsa City Councilor Jack Henderson said, "One of my life dreams is for everybody to treat veterans with respect, and that's something that hasn't happened in the past. It's happening now, more than ever before, and I think we're on the right path, and I really, really love veterans because they do so much for this country."

The council hopes to make this an annual event and honor more veterans next year.
