Back in August, Kevin Durant declared that he was the best player in the world. In his return, he’s now averaging 29.2 ppg to rank second in the league behind Golden State’s Stephen Curry who is on fire averaging 35.8 ppg.
Although he looks good in his return, Durant now says he’s not even the Thunder’s best player. He gives that credit to his mainstay Russell Westbrook. “We let our best player, Russell, just, we let him, you know, control the game,” said Durant after OKC’s 4th quarter loss to Toronto. He had 16 assists; he was getting everybody shots, getting himself shots, made shots, but at the end we just couldn’t finish.”
Westbrook has been excellent, and if we’re judging by the past year many of us can’t say we disagree. But, I think this is KD just being the humble player that he is.
Regardless, this is an interesting statement from the former MVP.
