The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office identified the deputy and suspect involved in a fatal shooting last month.

According to a news release, Deputy Bryan Qualls shot and killed stabbing suspect 30-year-old Daniel Nole at a drug rehab center between Ft. Gibson and Tahlequah in the Norwood area.

The release says Qualls, along with Lieutenant Charlie Dreadfulwater and Hulbert Police Department Officer Anthony Torix, responded to a report of multiple stabbings at the Faith Based Therapeutic Community Corporation around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 30.

According to the release, when they arrived, four victims said Nole stabbed them and ran toward the back of the property.

The deputies and officer said they began their search and found Nole in a small barn armed with a knife.

According to the release, Nole was ordered to drop the weapon but, instead, advanced on Deputy Qualls.

The release says Qualls fired his Taser several times and hit Nole with no effect. Deputies said he continued to move toward Qualls with the knife raised.

Qualls fell, drew his weapon and shot Nole, who was later pronounced dead by paramedics, according to the release.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting and will submit their findings to the Cherokee County district attorney.

Qualls has been with the CCSO for three years and is currently on administrative leave.
