We're in a holding pattern for the next few days before rain and thunderstorm chances return Thursday. A warming trend will remain for the next few days. Cool temperatures in the 40s and 50s are noted this morning across eastern OK. Dense fog developed last night due to a high moisture content, clear sky, and light wind. This fog may not dissipate until 10am to 11am this morning. Some clouds may also stick around through noon near the metro before clearing later this afternoon.
The upper air pattern will remain from the west to east for the short term but quickly transition from the southwest to northeast by the end of the week. A strong upper level trough currently off-shore of the west coast will move inland by Tuesday. This upper level trough will dig southward and eventually eject across the inter-mountain region Thursday and Friday. A strong disturbance will round the base of the trough Thursday and begin influencing the southern and central plains with increasing rain and thunderstorm chances. Model data currently keeps the deepest moisture south of the state, but some pockets of moderate to heavy rainfall will remain possible with this system, at least across part of southern OK. The threat of strong to severe storms cannot be ruled out at this point, but the overall assessment appears low.
The highest pop should be confined to Thursday with the front clearing the area pre-dawn Friday. Another surface front will move across the area Saturday with a shot of cool air remaining for the weekend. The pattern may support another chance for some showers this weekend as a long wave trough moves across the state but the moisture may be too far removed from our area for anything other than a few clouds. I’ll keep the mention out of the forecast at this point.
Temperatures today will be in the upper 60s and lower 70s after morning lows in the 40s and 50s this morning.
Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
