Authorities say one person was killed and three others wounded in a shooting at Tennessee State University in Nashville Thursday night.
The gunman was at large early Friday, the campus was on lockdown and classes were canceled for the day.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department's verified Twitter account, the gunfire was apparently prompted by a dispute over a dice game in an outdoor courtyard.
In a statement, the school said two males who weren't TSU students "may have been gambling. It is reported the two exchanged gunfire and one was fatally wounded."
CBS Nashville affiliate WTVF-TV reports the person who was killed was shot in the head.
Three TSU students were transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life threatening, authorities said. In a middle-of-the-night news conference, Nashville police said they happened to be walking by the shooting scene and were hit.
No other injuries were reported and students were escorted safely back to their residence halls.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
