Windy, Dry Conditions Lead To Oklahoma Fire Danger

High fire danger will once again be an issue starting today and continuing into Monday and Tuesday as well. Breezy southeast winds from 10-20 mph this afternoon, combined with low relative humidity and very dry vegetation, will lead to conditions favorable for fires to spread quickly if one does get going.

Oklahomans are urged to be careful with any ignition source that could spark a wildfire.

South winds will increase a bit more into the 15-25 mph range on Monday and Tuesday, keeping fire danger very high as drought conditions continue to return. 

Unfortunately, rain chances continue to look very slim until perhaps the end of this upcoming work week where there are SOME signs of possible rain relief. 

There are things you can do to help prevent possible wildfires from spreading. They include:

• Keep grass around your home cut short
• Keep dried leaves or cut grass around your home picked up
• Check your home's gutters for dried debris
• Trim dead branches from trees
• Keep all matches, lighters or fireworks away from kids

The only Oklahoma county currently under a burn ban is McCurtain County, but very dry conditions will exist across the state.
