DA Wants Bond Overturned For Tulsa Man Convicted Of Manslaughter

The Tulsa County District Attorney's Office is asking the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals to overturn a bond set for a Tulsa man last week. A Tulsa County judge let Steven Wade Jameson out of prison on a $60,000 bond after Jameson had served four years of a 24-year sentence.

He was convicted of first-degree manslaughter after a Christmas Eve crash killed three members of the Mulanax family in 2009. Michael, Angela and James Mulanax were killed after Jameson's Hummer crossed the center line and hit their car head on.

Jameson was released from prison last week after his attorneys argued their client did not know his license was revoked at the time of the deadly wreck.

The DA's office filed documents stating Judge James Caputo did not have the legal authority to set bail and essentially stay Jameson's sentence for first-degree manslaughter. Caputo's decision is "in direct violation" of state statutes that hold "no one convicted of first-degree manslaughter can be granted bond."

The documents call for the judge's decision to be overturned by a higher court or that the judge be directed to withdraw his order.
