Jenks District, Parents Meet Over 'Donuts with Dads' Controversy

We previously reported Jenks is now following new <a href="http://www.fns.usda.gov/healthierschoolday/tools-schools-focusing-smart-snacks"><strong>USDA snack standards</strong></a>, which means certain foods are not allowed in the classroom. Today parents and the district met to discuss the issue.

Parents are concerned over new wellness guidelines that would mean changes to a popular Donuts with Dads program at Jenks Public Schools.

The group had a meeting with district leaders on Friday afternoon.

We told you on Thursday that the school is now following new USDA snack standards, which means certain foods are not allowed in the classroom.

A parent told News On 6 us the district offered them three options going forward.

One is healthier donuts that meet the nutrition guidelines, another is popcorn instead of donuts or using Title I money to purchase games for the classroom instead.

The parents will meet on Oct. 23 to pick an option they agree to.
