Police are trying to figure out who supplied some Bixby high school students with alcohol over the weekend.
It happened on Saturday night as the students were headed to homecoming. Two were arrested for public drunkenness and five received citations. Some of the students are well-known athletes on the Bixby football team.
The homecoming dance was held at the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks; some students used a party bus as transportation to get there.
The police report says the driver of the party bus reported the students had alcohol on board as soon as he pulled up.
Bixby football players are getting ready for the next game this weekend, but a few players will likely be missing from the field.
Jenks Police arrested two students for public drunkenness and cited five others at the Bixby High Homecoming Saturday night, according to Chief of Police, Cameron Arthur.
"We don't want anything bad to happen to those kids, certainly they may play football or sports and all that, but it's minimal in keeping them safe," he said.
According to the police report, the driver of the party bus said he could smell alcohol on the bus, so he notified officers when they arrived at the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks.
The document says an empty flask and a small coke bottle containing alcohol were found on board.
Arthur said all the students were given the opportunity to take a breathalyzer test.
"The ones 18 and over were arrested and the other ones who were under the age of 18 were cited and released to parents at the scene," he said.
The Bixby Public Schools assistant superintendent said he can't say much because it's an ongoing investigation. He also said the district can't say how the seven students involved are being disciplined.
However, parents told News On 6 the football players have been suspended from three games, and all students involved are suspended from school for ten days.
Police are working to find out who provided the party bus and alcohol.
Arthur said, "The parents need to know, is kids can die from this. They get into cars, make bad decisions and aren't mature enough to make decisions, and then you add alcohol, it's a huge recipe for disaster."
Under Oklahoma law, it's illegal to provide a location for people who are under-age to drink and Arthur said a party bus could meet that criteria.
