ConocoPhillips laid off dozens of employees in Bartlesville on Monday.

The company hasn't said specifically how many employees it let go, but when it announced company-wide layoffs on September 1, 2015 it said it would cut 10 percent of its Bartlesville workforce which would be 170 positions.

A source told News On 6 the affected employees were told Monday.

When the company announced its cuts early last month it said the biggest proportion would be in North America. It said it planned to eliminate more than 500 jobs in Houston, where it is based.

ConocoPhillips said it made the cuts because the energy industry is in a "dramatic downturn." It had already cut 1,000 jobs this year when it announced the 10-percent reduction last month.
