Two Muskogee police officers received awards for work they do to help endangered children. Combined, the two have worked on almost 1,000 cases.
According to a news release, Officer James Poffel was awarded the Champion for Children award by the Muskogee County Multi-Disciplinary Team and Officer Shawn Brown was awarded the C4DEC Officer of the Year award by the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics.
Poffel has been a child investigator for four years, working almost exclusively of child crimes including, child abuse, neglect sexual assaults and rapes, the release says.
Brown has been a part of the Muskogee Special Investigators Unit for seven years, working primarily on narcotics cases. The release says in at least 12 of those cases children were involved.
According to the release, because of Brown’s work in narcotics cases involving children, he was responsible for rescuing a 7-year-old girl being abused by her mother’s boyfriend.
The Muskogee Police Department said they are proud of their officers saying, “They are outstanding examples of the pride and dedication it takes to make a difference in today’s world.”
