Tulsans To Slip-And-Slide The City To Help Charity

A dream come true for kids, and kids at heart, is coming to Tulsa when a 1,000-foot water slide will stretch through three blocks of downtown Saturday.

The giant slip-and-slide will benefit a local charity; a portion of ticket prices bought with a promo code will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Eastern Oklahoma.

It's great incentive to go, but do you really need more incentive than a massive water slide?

All it takes is 1,000 feet of padded vinyl, a little water, and the party's on.

Slide the City has already taken over cities in 30 states, including Oklahoma City, and has gotten wet and wild in five countries.

Saturday, it's Tulsa's turn to splash around on a waterslide the length of three football fields near 15th and Main.

Tracy Shriver fundraises for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Eastern Oklahoma and said it’s a great event.

"Music, food, getting wet, just a fantastic way to end the summer and to help out the Muscular Dystrophy Association," she said.

Wherever Slide the City visits, it gives some of its proceeds to a nonprofit. Shriver made sure that, in Tulsa, MDA was the chosen charity. The money will fund MDA clinics and summer camp.

"So, any kid with neuro-muscular disease can go to summer camp at no cost at all, which is the absolute best week of the year," she said.

Sliding starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 6 p.m. and, depending on which ticket you buy, a single pass for $25, a triple pass for $45 or unlimited slides from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for $65. Prices go up if you buy your tickets day-of.

You need an inflatable tube to slide, and some tickets come with goodies, like a tube, mouth guard or hat.

Shriver said, "It's not like those old slip-and-slides you'd go down two or three times and they'd rip. This is a pretty amazing cool thing."
