A Tulsa Police corporal shot almost two weeks ago received an outpouring of support from the local community Wednesday.
Gene Watkins is a member of the Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force and was shot in the leg after a chase with an ex-con.
The bullet barely missed a major artery by only an inch-and-a-half.

While Watkins is out of service for now, local business owners wanted to make sure he and his family knew the community cares about them, so they gave them a big basket full of goodies.
Donations were given by Complete Lawn Care, Broken Arrow Bowling Lanes, Great Harvest Bread Company, Billy Sims Bar-B-Que, Ron’s Hamburgers and Chili, Sam’s Warehouse, Freddie’s Hamburgers, Mr. Clean Auto Detail, Joe’s Crab Shack, The Silver Flame and Reasor’s Food.
“You know, all of this stuff, you know, is amazing I can get that much support,” Watkins said. “I consider myself, you know, very blessed. I now I’m going to be OK.”
Watkins said he’s been resting and coaching youth football, but is ready to get back to work as soon as doctors give him the OK.
