Man Arrested On I-44 For Shooting At Car After Argument

A man accused of shooting into a car with children is in custody after he was caught running the wrong way down Interstate 44 with a gun to his head.

Police after Demacio Seals fired the shots near 21st and Memorial, and before he ran down the interstate, he also tried to break into a nearby house.

The homeowners ran him off, and that’s when police found him on the highway.

Police said Seals shot at a car with a 4 year old and 9 month old inside; and although multiple bullets hit the vehicle, the kids and the adults inside made it out, shaken up, but alive.

Sitting on her porch, Rhonda Smith saw the men walking in the area. She said she started recording on her cell phone because it looked like one of the men was about to walk into the street.

"It looked like they were starting to fight and, all of a sudden, I heard the shots and the person running across 21st Street," she said.

Police said the shooting started after Seals was picked up from a motel in the 8100 block of 41st Street. Victims said they gave Seals a ride, but an argument started and they told Seals to get out.

"A little scuffle ensued inside the vehicle, the black male exited the vehicle and when he was doing that he fired several rounds into the car,” said Eric Nelson, with Tulsa Police.

Smith stopped recording to call police when she saw the men fighting. She said she saw the whole thing, saying after the man shot the car he ran away - by then police were on the way.

When she heard the shots, Smith said, “I just thought, here we go again, in this area we see stuff like this all the time."

But the story doesn't end there. Police said, after the man left the scene he ran through a neighborhood and tried to break into a house.

Multiple people called 911, which allowed police to track him from 21st and Memorial to I-44 and Memorial.

"He actually started running down I-44 westbound in the eastbound lanes with a gun out pointed at this head," Nelson said.

Police said it took the suspect two to three minutes to stop running and surrender, leaving police and the people he shot at wondering why.
Police said they did have to briefly shut down the interstate. They said the man didn’t seem to be under the influence.

Now that he is in custody he's facing four counts of shooting with intent to kill, possession of a firearm, possession of counterfeit money and possession of drug paraphernalia.
