Mayor Dewey Bartlett named Jackson W. Landrum Jr. as the new Director of the Mayor's Office of Human Rights on Friday.
“Jackson has guided the Human Rights Department through changes and growth during the past 18 months, strengthening the commissions supported by the department and continuing to assist small businesses in Tulsa,” said Mayor Dewey Bartlett.
Landrum has served as interim director of the Human Rights Department since January 2014. In July 2015, the city's Human Rights Department was renamed the Mayor’s Office of Human Rights by executive order.
In a news release, the Mayor’s Office of Human Rights was created to promote human and civil rights through advisory, educational and enforcement services.
Its mission is to promote equal opportunity and democratic rights and to protect human rights of persons in Tulsa against discrimination because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status or familial status.
The mayor said the appointment is effective immediately.
