Authorities are investigating after a man was shot by police officers near Disney State Park late Thursday.
GRDA Police Chief Brian Edwards says at about 9 p.m. a Mayes County sheriff’s deputy pulled over a vehicle for a traffic stop on Highway 28. Witnesses say a passenger in that vehicle got out holding a handgun to his own head. He then ran into the woods next to the spillway.
Two GRDA Police officers located the man who then pointed the gun at the officers, authorities say. The officers fired their guns striking him at least two times. The man, Mitchell Rocky Allen, 36, was taken to a Tulsa hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
Edwards has asked the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation handle the investigation. The district attorney will determine whether the shooting was justified.
