Kids in Broken Arrow are learning what it takes to be a police officer this week at the Broken Arrow Junior Police Academy.

Monday's activities included an obstacle course and learning what officers do during traffic stops.

Police said the academy not only helps kids decide if they want to become an officer, but also helps them become better citizens.

"So they're not caught off guard. So they completely understand why we approach a car a certain way, why we ask them certain questions when we stop them. And how will react to them in the future when they become contributing citizens in the community,” said Daniel Hurst, BAPD.

The kids will also watch a K9 demonstration, see how Life Flight works and learn what goes into investigations.
