Cherokee Nation Holding Tribal Elections

It's election day for Cherokee Nation tribal members. There are four candidates in the running for principal chief. They are the current chief, Bill John Baker, Will Fourkiller, Charlie Soap and Chad Smith.

Smith was voted out of office in 2011 in a contentious election that involved months of controversy, two elections and multiple recounts before Baker was sworn in.

Polls are open through 7 p.m. Officials expect results to come in late Saturday night.
