A man jumped off the roof of a church overnight to get away from police after they reportedly caught him burglarizing a church.

Police are still looking for the man they say tried to steal an air conditioning unit from the Northside Christian Church near 46th Street North and Peoria.

The alleged burglar is still on the run, despite police using a K-9 officer and a helicopter to try and catch this man.

They don't have a good description of the suspect.

Around 11:45 Sunday, police got an alarm call. When the first officer got to the church, the man jumped off the roof and ran into an overgrown area.

Apparently, the man had used a City of Tulsa recycle bin to get on the roof, and was trying to steal a window A/C unit and put it in a bag when he got scared by the police.

"Historically it's been a situation where people leave the churches alone," said Tulsa Police Corporal Dan Miller. "But our times are changing, and people are taking advantage of the situation now."

Despite it being damaged, police did return the air conditioning unit to the church.
