OHP Releases Name Of Trooper Involved In Fatal Miami Shooting

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol released the name of the trooper involved in a fatal Miami shooting.

OHP says Trooper Aaron Gibe shot and killed Gary Timmie Collins Friday, April 24 just before midnight.

According to OHP, officers worked a DUI checkpoint near Miami when, they said, Collins was asked to pull on to the shoulder and instead led OHP on a short six-block chase.

Collins got out of the vehicle with a pistol in his hand, according to OHP Captain Paul Timmons.

When Gibe noticed the gun, he feared for his safety and fired at Collins, OHP said.

Investigators said they have not pinpointed why Collins took off from the checkpoint, so they still are searching for answers.

Gibe has been a member of OHP since June, 2014.
