Broken Arrow native Kristin Chenoweth is in the running for a Tony award. The nominations were announced Tuesday.
Chenoweth was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a musical for her run in On the Twentieth Century.
The musical garnished five nominations: Best Rival of a Musical, Best Performance by an Actress, Best Performance by an Actor in A featured Role (Andy Karl), Best Scenic Design of a Musical and Best Costume Design of a Musical.
The play is centered aboard a luxury train traveling from Chicago to New York City. A bankrupt theater producer played by Peter Gallagher tries to persuade Chenoweth into a starring role in a new, non-existent drama. It's based in part on a 1932 Broadway play Twentieth Century which became a film in 1934.
Chenoweth last won a Tony for best actress in the musical "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown."
Another Oklahoma native, Kelli O'Hara of Elk City, Oklahoma, is also nominated for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her performance in “The King and I.”
She is also set to host the Tony Awards ceremony from Radio City Music Hall on June 7, 2015. It will be aired live on CBS.
