The City of Sand Springs received a $2 million gift on Thursday.

Philanthropist and Sand Springs native Mike Case handed over a giant check this morning to Sand Springs Park Friends.

They'll use the money as part of their Vision 2025 project to improve River City Park.

Case said Sand Springs is a special place and he wants changes to the park to reflect that.

"Not just a city park with grass and trees, but you know - splash pads and event centers and new restrooms, and a boulevard, signage - something that makes it special," Case said.

Case said the donation has been in the works for months, and it didn't come about because of the tornado two weeks ago that destroyed the park's baseball fields and downed more than 80 trees.
