A six-year-old Bartlesville boy is recovering after a pit bull bit him when he tried to pet the dog Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Police Captain Jay Hastings said the incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. in the neighborhood at Cheyenne and Lupa and the victim suffered injuries to his face and arm.
He said the victim and his two brothers got off a school bus and were walking home when they entered the backyard of a home in the 200 block of Cheyenne to pet the dog which reminded them of one they used to have.
Police said the dog was secured by a cable attached to a tree.
Paramedics took the boy to a hospital to be treated for cuts around his right eye and bites on his right arm.
Captain Hastings said officers cited the dog's owner, Stacey Moreno, for not having a dog license, a rabies tag and violating a city ordinance requiring the confinement of vicious animals. Police arrested Moreno on an unrelated municipal warrant.
The City of Bartlesville also ordered Moreno to quarantine the dog for 10 days.
