The Corps of Engineers has closed a popular fishing spot below Oologah Dam because of a construction and rehabilitation project.
The work is taking place in the Verdigris River Park. The Corps says it's repairing portions of the rip rap, which is made up of boulders used to hold the bank in place. A spokesman says the rip rap dates back more than 40 years to when the lake was first constructed.
The project includes stabilizing the bank, rehabilitating the outlet channel and improving roadways.
Verdigris River Park is popular with fishermen, but the boat ramp and the rest of the park are closed until the work is finished.
The Corps says about 10% of the project is complete and has no timetable for when it will be finished.
