Bartlesville Police released the identity of the man who shot and killed himself Thursday night during a traffic stop. William David Parks Jr., 36, was a passenger in a car pulled over in the Eastland Shopping Center.

Police say he shot himself in the head as officers tried to talk him out of the vehicle. They found a firearm and illegal drugs inside, according to a news release.

Parks was wanted in Osage County for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and three counts of feloniously pointing a firearm, records show. The U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force was trying to take him into custody.

"Law Enforcement had information that Parks was armed and had made statements about taking his own life if caught," said Captain Jay Hastings.

"Officers were concerned with the public's safety during the search for Parks and every attempt was made to take him into custody in a safe area. Once the suspect became mobile in a vehicle the officers' choices became limited."

After the traffic stop, police served a search warrant at a motel in the 2300 block of SE Washington where Parks had been staying. They found illegal drugs and a 3-month-old child in the room.

Two people in the motel room were arrested. Fredrick Allen Reese and Sadie Diane Patterson - both of Pawhuska - were arrested on drug and child endangerment complaints.

Police also arrested the driver of the car Parks was riding in at the time of his death. Jennie Mae Dilley, 29, was arrested for drug possession and child endangerment, Hastings said.

Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies assisted in the arrest.
