The Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office cited a man for the illegal dumping of cattle remains, according to Sheriff Ron Lockhart.

Deputies discovered 24 cow heads and three fully developed calves near a boat ramp at the Robert S. Kerr Dam at the Arkansas River over the weekend. Authorities said some of the animals, which were apparently butchered for meat, still had ear tags.

"During the investigation, we tracked tag numbers on the ears of the cows to a ranch in Chelsea, Oklahoma," Lockhart said in a news release.

"We also learned that the particular cow was taken to a processing plant in Stigler, Oklahoma."

The man who was cited took the cow heads to remove the meat on the cheeks and them dumped them illegally. Authorities did not release the man's name.

"The case will be submitted to the Oklahoma State Agriculture Department for possible additional charges," Lockhart said.

"The Sequoyah County Sheriff's Department will also file restitution papers to be reimbursed for the disposal of the parts along with the man hours worked on the case."
