An American Airlines jet bound from New York to Los Angeles was diverted to Tulsa Friday afternoon.

Flight 19, a twin-engine Airbus A321, had taken off at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York at 10:51 a.m. Oklahoma time and was supposed to land at LAX at 4:07 p.m. Oklahoma time.

Instead, the plane landed in Tulsa at about 2:15 p.m. A Twitter user named Rachel Wolff said the cabin filled with smoke and that the bathrooms weren't working.

An America Airlines spokeswoman said the plane landed in Tulsa because of the problem with the bathrooms. She said the company serviced the lavatories and refueled the plane. She said the plane had 79 passengers and a crew of eight on board.

It departed Tulsa at about 3:45 p.m.
