Health Officials Report 11 More Oklahoma Flu-Related Deaths

Eleven more Oklahomans have died from influenza, according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health.
In numbers released Thursday, the department says five of those new deaths occurred in eastern Oklahoma between January 21-27. The OSDH says flu-related deaths now stand at 58, up from 47 reported last Thursday.
An Oklahoma City teenager is one of several children who have died. Just one week after the death of a 5-year-old girl from Moore, officials said a, eighth-grader from Taft Middle School has died from flu complications.

Tulsa County continues to lead the state in flu-related deaths with 12 since September 28, 2014.
Muskogee County reported two new flu deaths compared to a week ago. They now stand at three deaths since last fall. Rogers County added one new death, bringing its total this flu season to four; and Ottawa County added a new death, bringing its total to two since last year.
Statewide, the Oklahoma State Department of Health says the majority of flu-related deaths are those 65 years of age or older. Fifteen deaths were ages 54 or younger. Two deaths were children under the age of four.
