Many Oklahomans love to fish and hunt.
Now, one local company, with the backing of the NRA, is helping outdoors enthusiasts broaden their horizons by coordinating trips to places like Utah and even Belize.
“Started doing it part time and before I know it, it just blew up,” Greg Ray said.
The venture started out as a hobby, then a franchise, and now it has the official backing of the National Rifle Association.
Greg Ray runs NRA Outdoors from Broken Arrow and he has helped thousands turn their hunting and fishing dreams into reality.
"What is your exact species? What are your physical limitations because some terrains are tougher than others? How many are in your group? What's your budget?"
And with that, he pairs people with their perfect adventures.
Recently, they started a long-range shooting school where people spend a week on a shooting range in Utah.
The trips tend to sell out in the first few hours and range from a couple hundred dollars to whatever your bank account will allow.
"We've got guys that save up for three years to go on a hunt and it's a trip of a lifetime, and we take care of them,” Ray said. “Or we've got guys with disposable incomes that take 5-6 trips a year."
As the demand for the trips grow, Ray expects they might need to expand staff beyond himself, his wife and his business partner.
But for now, he is enjoying every moment of a job that lets him live out what he loves.
"Getting the feedback whenever we follow up, and now they're hooked on these outdoor activities -- that is probably the most rewarding part of the job,” he said.
NRA Outdoors also helps when customers travel outside of the country with things like transporting meat and firearms.
