An 82-year-old Locust Grove man is dead after a collision outside Chouteau in Mayes County. The two-vehicle crash took place at 2:02 p.m. Friday at the junction of U.S. Highway 412 and 412B, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Troopers say an Arkansas man failed to yield from the stop sign on southbound 412B and pulled out in front of Richard D. Beattie of Locust Grove. Beattie, who had been westbound on the highway, was pinned for about 30 minutes before being freed by Chouteau firefighters.

He was pronounced dead at a Tulsa hospital, according to a collision report.

The other driver, Jimmie Ray Hobbs of Vilonia, Arkansas, was admitted to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition with numerous injuries, troopers say.

Troopers say the wreck was caused when the 72-year-old Hobbs failed to yield.
