OU Prevails Over TU With 87-68 Victory

<p>The Tulsa Hurricane went head-to-head with the University of Oklahoma Saturday afternoon in the Reynolds Center. Despite the Hurricane effort, OU walked away with a 87-68 victory, rising to 6-2 on the season, and dropping TU to 5-5.</p>

The Tulsa Hurricane went head-to-head with the University of Oklahoma Saturday afternoon in the Reynolds Center. Despite the Hurricane effort, OU walked away with an 87-68 victory, rising to 6-2 on the season, and dropping TU to 5-5.

OU got on the board first with a layup from TaShawn Thomas, off the assist from Jordan Woodard. TU answered with a jumper from Rashad Smith, making it a 2-2 game in the opening minutes. OU quickly regained its lead, after Isaiah Cousins posted another score for OU. By the 14:16 mark, OU had outscored TU 15-6. Two minutes later the Golden Hurricane cut the Sooner lead to four.

OU didn't allow Tulsa to eat away at its lead for long. Khadeem Lattin went down court and knocked down a jumper, off an assist from Buddy Hield, for another Sooner bucket. At this point Oklahoma led Tulsa 20-13. OU would go on to lead the half 43-32.

The second half opened up with a made free throw from OU's Thomas, and a couple layups between the two teams. TU began to fall further behind after Hield knocked down a basket from behind the arc, advancing OU's lead 50-36.

With 8:36 left to play, OU began to dominate, overpowering TU 74-51. TU continued to fight, in order to keep up with the Sooners. James Woodard hit a three-pointer in the final six minutes, cutting Oklahoma's lead down to 16. Cousins bounced right back for an OU three, advancing OU again. With 3:46 to go, Marquel Curtis hit a much needed jumper for the Golden Hurricane, but TU needed more than that, now trailing by 18. Shaquille Harrison brought the rain for another TU three in the final minute of the game, but it wasn't enough to bring the team back. OU went on to win 87-68.

Cousins led OU in scoring with 21 points. He also contributed eight rebounds, two steals, and one assist.

Harrison led TU with 21 points, five rebounds, and five assists. He also had one steal, and two blocks.

TU will return to the court Wednesday, December 17, to take on Missouri State. That game tips off at 7:00 p.m. in the Reynolds Center.
