The Tulsa City Council has asked the City Attorney for an opinion on whether or not it's legal to use red light cameras at intersections in the city.
So far, the council has not taken a position on whether or not it's good public policy to use the cameras, but wants an opinion on the legal questions before proceeding.
In their request the city council notes state law does not specifically allow for red light cameras or prohibits them. The council cites the Federal Highway Administration which it says considers the cameras to be effective at reducing red light running and the related crashes.
