Could you build a robot that opens a door, picks things up, knocks things down or even scores a soccer goal?
If you're on the Robotics Team at Discovery School of Tulsa, you'd already have done it. They are the regional champs and are preparing for the state championship this weekend.
Hugo Reyna and Logan Bloxham are on the 8th grade robotics team at Discovery School of Tulsa. They got 564 out of 590 – the perfect score - last month to win the regional and are fine tuning for the state championship.
They used to use wires from the computer to the robot, but that's no longer the case.
"Now we're just Bluetooth so we can download it from there to here," Hugo said.
The competition they're in is sponsored by Lego and several high tech companies. Each team gets the game board layout - every team has the exact same tasks to perform.
They get a box of Lego pieces, a brain, wheels and motors. The team must decide to do all or just some of the tasks, then build and program the robot to get it done.
There were 66 teams in the regional tournament last month, they're expecting more for state.
"At state I think there's gonna be 160, so there's a lot of teams," said Hugo.
One of the tasks they've been fine tuning is tossing the ball into the goal - it's not been as consistent as they want it to be.
The team will be honored at an assembly Friday. They'll each receive a certificate from Google, recognizing their achievements.
The State Championship is at Edmond Sante Fe High School on Saturday.
