In the past week, the number of hospitalizations due to the flu has nearly doubled in Oklahoma.

The latest numbers from the Oklahoma State Department of Health show 52 people have been hospitalized as a result of the illness this season, which began on September 28.

The OSDH says Tulsa County has had 10 hospitalizations, and Oklahoma County reports nine cases this season. While Tulsa County saw the biggest jump in hospitalizations over the past week, from three to 10, several counties across central Oklahoma experienced increases with some reporting their first hospitalizations this season.

The state health department says Adair and Carter counties each have had six flu cases. Cleveland County reports three cases. Garfield, Love, Payne and Stephens counties reported two cases each.

Other counties reporting one flu case each include Blaine, Comanche, Greer, Jefferson, Kingfisher, Lincoln, Marshall, Mayes and McClain.
