TU men's basketball took on Creighton Wednesday night in the Reynolds Center at 7:00 p.m. TU defeated the Bluejays 77-64, moving to 4-3 on the season.
TU got on the board first with a jumper from Shaquille Harrison. The Golden Hurricane still managed to get down early in the game, trailing at the 17:58 mark. With 17 minutes on the clock, a layup by Marquel Curtis tied up the game. Creighton quickly regained their lead with a three-pointer from Austin Chatman, making it a 9-6 ball game.
Tulsa would continue to trail until the 5:43 mark, when James Woodard knocked down a three to tie the game 25-25. Woodard then hit two more back-to-back threes, causing TU to take the lead. TU's defense locked down the Bluejays as they went on an 18-5 run, leading the half 33-25.
Going into halftime, TU was 11-26 from the field, 4-8 from behind the arc, and 7-14 from the free throw line. They scored five points off second chance points, three points off turnovers, and four points off steals. Creighton was 7-25 from the field, 3-10 from behind the arc, and 8-10 from the free throw line. They scored eight points off turnovers and one point off of a steal.
Creighton fought to come back in the second half, closing TU's lead to three with 18:39 left to play. With 15 minutes on the clock Woodard hit another three, giving Tulsa a six point lead. With 11 minutes left of the half, the Golden Hurricane led 54-41.
TU led by a dozen in the final eight minutes. The Bluejays attempted to catch up, but couldn't work around the Golden Hurricane's defense. TU wrapped the game leading by 13.
Tulsa will return to action Sunday, December 7, to take on the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The game tips off at 2:00 p.m. in Arkansas.
