OSU Women's Basketball Win By 30 At Home

The OSU women's basketball team defeated Morgan State Tuesday night, 73-43.

The Lady Bears took the lead early in the game, outscoring Oklahoma State 5-0 within the opening minutes. Morgan State's Carrington Tracey was leading the board with all five points. OSU got on the board soon after that, at minute mark 14:13. Mandy Coleman hit a layup, and then LaShawn Jones hit a basket following that. At this point the Cowgirls were only down by one.

With 11:03 left in the first, Liz Donohoe hit a jumper allowing OSU to take an 8-7 lead. By the 8:27 mark OSU was leading by two. With seven minutes left of the half, Morgan State regained the lead. OSU began to force turnovers, and took their lead back in the last six minutes. The lead continued to flip-flop between the two teams, until the last two minutes of the half. OSU had a 23-18 lead with 2:05 to go. They would advance their lead to 29-19 by the end of the first.

Going into halftime, OSU was 38.7 percent in field goals, zero percent from the free throw line, and 20 percent from three-point range. Morgan State was 23.3 percent in field goals, 71 percent from the free throw line, and zero percent from the three.

OSU had nine assists, five blocks, and three steals, while MSU had no assists, one block, and five steals.

Opening the final half, OSU quickly took a 43-24 lead over the Lady Bears. At the 14:04 mark, Brittany Atkins was leading OSU in scoring with 15 points, while Tracey Carrington led the Lady Bears with 13.

With 12 minutes on the clock the Cowgirls began to take off on MSU, now leading by 25 points. OSU went on to hold their lead for the remainder of the game, winning by 30 points.

Brittany Atkins led both teams in scoring with 17 points. She also contributed four rebounds and two assists. Brittney Martin had six rebounds and eight assists, leading OSU in those categories. She also knocked down ten points for her team. Liz Donohoe also helped in the team's winning efforts by hitting ten points and pulling down five rebounds.

Tracey Carrington led Morgan State with 15 points, six rebounds, and two assists.

OSU hits the court again this Saturday to take on Texas State. The game tips off at 2:00 p.m. in the Gallagher-Iba Arena.
