A family of four and their pets escaped from a Berryhill fire overnight Saturday. Tulsa and Berryhill fire crews were called to the 4000 block of West 41st Street at about 2:30 a.m.
"Right above the garage was primarily where most of the fire and flame were when they arrived," said Berryhill Assistant Fire Chief Jim Arrowood.
The homeowners and their two children made their way out of the home before crews arrived.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Arrowood said a space heater in use in the carport may be to blame. The homeowners were using the space heater to keep their dogs warm, he said.
The fire damaged the garage, carport, a vehicle and the attic of the home. The car was on fire when crews arrived, but they got it out, Arrowood said.
The Red Cross was coming to help the family, and they have family in the area as well, he said.
